ACTIVITIES

  Awareness of children with diabetes

An important area of focus for Kids & Care is to transfer of knowledge. KNOWLEDGE, transferred through age-related educational programme in SCHOOLS, is essential to create and heighten awareness of diabetes among the parents of the children, the family system, teachers and fellow-pupils of the child with diabetes.

Kids & Care’s objective is, in cooperation with Department of Health, hospital professionals, patients’ organizations to increase this awareness by means of a special communication and educational programme for primary schools, clinics and hospitals in KwaZulu Natal, Gauteng and Cape Provinces

2009 – 2010 Health Promoting project
The partnership with the KZN Department of health entails identifying health promoting settings or sites where the educational material will be disseminated, health educators will be up skilled to manage the material and then a survey will be conducted as the efficacy of the material vs the needs of the community in which the material is distributed. This is the first phase of the project targeting Health promoting schools, health promoting clinics and hospitals in the province. Depending on the outcome of this phase, the process will be rolled out to other health facilities and schools and in more provinces.

Libraries
In the coming years Kids & Care strives after a close cooperation with the South Africa libraries. Some libraries in the Western Cape have already inserted some of our booklets in their inventory. Kids& Care wishes that the booklets can be distributed to most of the libraries in the country.
